Speaker:  Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle
Mayor Battle was born in Birmingham and moved to Huntsville in 1980 after graduating from the University of Alabama.   Mayor Battle quickly established himself as a successful businessman and civic leader.  He has served on the Huntsville City Council, was Chairman of the Early Works Board of Directors, and has been a volunteer on a number of prominent boards, including the solid waste disposal authority and HEMSI.  Mayor Battle also has been active in the leadership of Trinity United Methodist Church.  Today he maintains an interest in several retail and commercial real estate businesses.

In Mayor Battle's first year in office, the City of Huntsville was named the #1 city in America by Kiplinger's Personal Finance for 2009 and received a historic AAA bond rating by Standard and Poor's (S&P) - the highest bond rating given and the first in Alabama state history.
The Mayor has been married to the former Eula Sammons for nineteen years. Eula is a retired Kindergarten teacher from the county schools; she was Madison County Teacher of the Year in 2000.

Program:  Cyber Huntsville – Huntsville's need for a national cyber security research, development, testing, and engineering (RDT&E) center within the Redstone Gateway complex. This national center will be known as the Cyber Systems Innovation & Security Center (CSISC).
Huntsville's government, private and academic sectors currently are an integral part of the national cyber infrastructure. Huntsville is a major systems center for various defense, aerospace, and other federal agencies and interfaces with U.S. and international enterprises.
Mayor Battle's initiative proposes that the CSISC facilities be located at the Redstone Gateway complex at the entrance to Redstone Arsenal's Gate 9. CSISC's tenants will include government agencies and private domestic and international companies, as well as other groups that are engaged in public and private cyber security research, development, testing, and engineering projects. Mayor Battle will extend an invitation to all relevant parties to participate in this initiative.

For more information about the CSISC, please visit the following website: www.huntsvilleal.gov/redstonegateway.

NCMS Midsouth Chapter

NCMS was founded in 1964 by a group of government and industry security classification managers and administrators who recognized the importance of establishing a society, national in scope, to advance the practice of Classification Management as a profession.

Today, the Society has nearly 3,000 members in the United States and overseas including representatives from NATO countries. Within the U.S., members come from the Department of Energy, Department of Defense, Department of State, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Bureau of Investigation, National Security Agency, General Accounting Office--virtually every Federal agency that deals with classification--and from the civilian contractors who work with these agencies. As the Society has grown over the years, its focus has also expanded. NCMS now provides professional development for its members in the field of classification management, information security, personnel security, computer security, operations security (OPSEC), facility security, and technology security.
